Literacy London offers free, customized literacy and numeracy tutoring to adults 19 years and older in the London area. Sessions are conducted by trained volunteers and are tailored to each student’s specific needs and goals.

Assessment and referral

Students interested in Literacy London’s services are screened by staff and either matched with a tutor to begin lessons, or referred to other educational or training programs better suited to their needs.

Volunteers and staff develop detailed training plans for each student, which are updated every three months when students are reassessed. Follow-up interviews are conducted three and six months after a student concludes their lessons with Literacy London.

Customized literacy and numeracy tutoring

One-on-one tutoring sessions are customized to learners goals.

One-on-one tutoring sessions are customized to learners goals.

Our learners are paired with a volunteer tutor who conducts one-on-one sessions in a group setting, which means there are other learners and tutors having lessons in the same room.

The lessons are customized to the learner’s goals, whether they want to master basic writing and reading skills for every-day tasks, apply for work or school, prepare for the GED, or improve their composition or comprehension.

Employment Track Express

Employment Track Express is a 60-hour retraining program that helps displaced workers prepare resumes, use a computer to search and apply for jobs, identify transferable skills and research the labour market.

Literacy London partners with Employment Ontario to offer the Employment Track Express program on a contractual basis to agencies serving displaced workers.
